Thailand opened seven more one-stop service centers to register
migrant workers in addition to the first center in Samut Sakhon where
it drew large number of foreign labor to register.
The seven centers are in Samut Prakarn, Chachoengsao, Rayong, Ayutthaya, Chonburi, Surat Thani and Songkhla.
The centers were opened following the success of the pilot center in Samut Sakhon province.
Employers and migrant workers from
three countries arrived at the centers early in the morning yesterday
to queue up for registration.
The registration of migrant
Officials included health checkup to make sure they are not addicted to
drugs, or have any serious communicable diseases.
In Rayong, five migrant workers were tested positive to drugs. They were taken into police custody and will be deported.
Most of the workers being registered will be from Cambodia, followed by those from Myanmar and Laos, officials said.
The Ministry of Interior will open
22 more one-stop service centers in coastal provinces in order to tackle
the issue of illegal migrant workers in the fishing industry.
