One constable dead during a Muslim mob attack in Arakan


Burma-police-in-Rakhaine-state(Sitwe- 1 January 20124): A police constable was killed and another one was seriously injured when a Muslim mob masterminded an attack in Manzi areas, an outskirt of Arakan capital city of Sittwe.
The incident took place on Monday afternoon and the victim constable is identified as Thant Zin Win (22 years old, son of U Kyaw Win), said the officials and hospital sources.

The injured constable, named Kyaw Kyaw Moe (22), is now in the hospital with severe injuries. The officials informed that both of them were on duty at Manzi police station, when the incident took place.
According to the on-duty health workers in Sittwe general hospital, Thant Zin Win succumbed to his injuries at 1 am of Tuesday. On the other hand, Kyaw Kyaw Moe is still struggling for his life in the hospital bed.
The local source informed that both the unarmed police constables faced the attack when they were on duty in the Manzi graveyard locality. The constables tried to prevent a group of Muslim people who wanted to demolish some brick tombs in the graveyard.
The Muslim mob started beating the constables with iron sticks and other sharp materials. Both the constables received severe injuries and they were sent to Sittwe general hospital where Thant Zin died after some hours.
An official from Arakan State government informed that the Arakan State chief with other ministers and high level police officials sat together to finalize the strategy to resolve the murder issue.
However, the authority has not arrested anyone in connection with the murder till date.
